News Release: Impacting Penangites Through Partnership with Hospital Lam Wah Ee(2008-06-19)
PENANG – ICT Consulting and outsourcing services company HT Consulting has, for the last 20 years of operations benefited immensely from the island of Penang with successful implementations for major manufacturing plants, hospitals and government agencies. Island renowned Hospital Lam Wah Ee (LWE) that holds on to its tradition of being a charity hospital benefiting the sick and needy, is amongst the list of HT Consulting long-standing customer organizations that has chosen to leverage technology to enhance its operations.
In an initiative to contribute back to the society that has faithfully supported HT Consulting over the years, the solutions provider – heralded by Penang born CEO Harres Tan, has pledged RM50, 000 toward the hospital’s public donation fund in support of its philanthropic works.
“Penang has contributed toward much of our successes, especially in our early days. It is only apt that we do our part by supporting a society that has put us where we are today.” He said before personally handing the cheque to Dato’ Tan Yew Thong, a member of the LWE Board of Directors, here at Hospital LWE.
Being a Penangite who was born and bred on the island himself, Penang will always hold a special place in Harres’s heart. “We must continue to support Lam Wah Ee and its provision of (medical) services to the less fortunate. And we must also look for future opportunities to work together again toward improving the health of the people here.” He added.

Each year, Hospital LWE records a total of 32,404 and 284,314 patients for its inpatient admissions and outpatient consultations respectively. Out of these, a total of over RM2 million in welfare subsidies, which include provision of free medical treatment, reduction in charges and rebates are provided to the patients who apply.
With a workforce of over 1,200 accounting for both Western and Chinese medicine practice and more than 500 beds to house inpatients, Hospital LWE strives to provide medical services to the general public regardless of race or religion. Additionally, it also aims to raise health awareness by frequently organizing health talks and conducting free health checks and counseling sessions both in the hospital premises as well as offsite at factories and community centers.
In his closing remarks during the cheque handover on Monday morning, Dato’ Tan lightheartedly commented that he also looked forward to more Monday mornings such as this to kick start his week. He was glad that Harres remembers his grass-roots, as demonstrated in HT Consulting’s charity partnership with the hospital. Abiding by true Penang hospitality, the meeting between both chiefs of staff over authentic Penang kopi-O and Nyonya kuih has now gained new momentum with this unique collaboration in place.
