News Release: Loh Guan Lye Specialists Centre to Implement Panton EMR(2009-09-26)
PENANG – Loh Guan Lye Specialists Centre, one of the largest and most established medical centers in the country officially open its new 10-storey building today. The new medical facility has also successfully embarked on a new approach to handling and managing patient medical records with the implementation of Panton™ Electronic Medical Records (EMR) System.
Panton™ EMR, a locally developed solution by HT Consulting Group subsidiary HT SoftLab, will serve to bridge the inherent communication gaps found in most HealthCare facilities in Malaysia between its different information systems applications such as the Hospital Information System (HIS) and Queue Management System (QMS), etc. Panton™ overcomes this problem by allowing doctors, nurses and other administrative staff instant access to valuable patient medical information at the point-of-care.
Built as a web-based solution, the system will replace the traditional paper-based approach of physical medical record handling with electronic copies and the Panton™ workflow module to enable seamless record transfer to-and-from the point-of-care. The robust workflow will also function as an integral tool for efficient consolidation of doctors’ consultation notes and prescriptions at the end of a patient’s visit. Upon consolidation, Panton™ EMR will signal the pharmacy and billing department for further processing, thus shortening the medication dispensing and billing cycle.
HT Consulting Group CEO Harres Tan strongly believes that Panton™ EMR’s ability to shorten a medical facility’s billing cycle is key to achieving optimal operational efficiency because “the bottle neck is always found at the payment counter.” He said, quoting from personal experience. “Sometimes, we can be subjected to waiting time of up to half a day because the billing department requires time to physically consolidate our records to be able to bill accurately.” He added.
A senior surgeon at Loh Guan Lye Specialists Centre who has had the privilege to work with four other EMR solutions over the last ten years commented that Panton™ EMR has successfully simulated the manner in which its patient medical records are being handled and processed daily. “The logical process flow that Panton EMR introduces makes the solution very straight forward and user friendly.” He said.
He particularly adapts well to Panton™ EMR because “it is not manual driven, as such it offers exceptional work flow flexibility and speed in updating and routing patient records.” He also highlighted his enthusiasm about how the system now enables him to place prescription orders electronically, as well as how he possesses flexibility to update or amend them easily without the need for additional paper work.
The electronic transfer of prescription orders will further improve patient care especially for patients requiring immediate stat dosage medication because the pharmacy department will be able to receive prescription orders in real-time.
Panton™ EMR will also be the first to introduce to the doctors, the use of Tablet PC to enable optimal mobility when treating patients in both an inpatient and outpatient environment. While the system will radically streamline administrative and clinical work flows to maximize operational efficiencies, it will not subject doctors to a steep learning curve because they will be introduced to a new dimension of documenting notes and prescriptions using a stylus. Doctors will be able to maintain their ability to write consultation notes, draw diagrams and fill out readily available electronic forms such as notes for prescriptions, surgeries, etc. just like how they would on paper-based records.
